RELiON LiFePO4 marine batteries

RELiON lithium iron phosphate batteries used as group-size house or trolling packs when the charging system can support them.

A small aluminum outboard skiff tied along a lake shore. A wooden lake dock with a metal gangway; a pontoon boat is barely visible at the far end.

Lithium with a BMS

RELiON packs include a battery management system. Charge voltage, whether series is allowed, and low-temperature charge inhibit come from the sheet for that model. Battery University’s LiFePO4 notes are a useful frame: four 3.2-volt cells, about 14.6 volts at the top of charge, and no conventional lead-acid float.

The rest of the boat still matters

A module that sits in a group-31 tray is not finished work if the onboard charger is flooded-only, or if a small outboard alternator is asked to refill a large lithium trolling bank. Those are the lithium and alternator articles on this site, not a RELiON-specific rumor.

Trolling in series

Some lithium 12-volt blocks may be series-connected for 24 or 36 volts; some may not. We do not assume series is allowed because the old flooded batteries were. The motor voltage, the BMS, and the charger program all have to agree.

Lines we are asked about

Model names below are public line names used to identify batteries already on boats.

  • 12-volt group-size LiFePO4 — Physical group 24/27/31-ish packs used as house or trolling 12-volt blocks.
  • Series trolling use — Two or three 12-volt lithium blocks in series for 24/36-volt bow motors, only if the maker allows series.
